UPDATE: A new PS5 restock update shared by stock tracker accounts suggests that a big shipment of consoles will be available to purchase on Thursday, August 19.
More news is expected before things go live but it looks like GAME will be hosting a new PlayStation 5 stock event between 8am BST and 12pm BST.
ORIGINAL: With more ambitious games and remakes planned for release in 2021, the race to buy a new next-gen console is heating up.
Sony is busily trying to keep up with consumer demand after it was revealed that they have now sold through 10 million units of PS5 stock globally.
It’s unclear how much of that has been sold in the UK, but it’s clear that a lot more is needed to keep up with current demand.
Every time a shop or digital store announces a restock of PlayStation 5 consoles; they are quickly sold out.
Some retailers have set up systems so that they can send out digital codes so that consumers don’t have to sit in online queues.
But even with these new systems in place, it’s still very difficult to snag a next-gen gaming machine.
The good news is that a new wave of PS5 stock is expected to be released over the coming days, giving fans their next chance.
Many of the dates shared come from stock tracker accounts, and some remain rough predictions.
And while these have to be taken with a pinch of salt, it’s always good to know what might be happening later in August.
From what has been shared so far by reliable sources, the earliest big PS5 stock drop will happen on Tuesday, August 17.
GAME is expected to restock and release its latest shipment of PlayStation 5 consoles on that date; however, there is a chance that they will delay until a little later.
This means the restock event could happen between August 17 and August 20, with pre-order pages expected to go live very soon.
If the GAME restock does arrive on time, gamers have been warned to be ready in the late morning.
PS5: Sony unveil pricing for PlayStation 5 console
While the official PS5 page with the new stock isn’t expected to go live super early, something is expected to happen between 8am and 12pm BST.
Other UK retailers are also expected to restock during August, with Smyths Toys and Very both linked to shipments between August 18 and August 20.
This news was shared by the PS5 Stock UK tracker account on Twitter, who have a good track record of sharing drops before they happen.
The full message from PS5 Stock UK reads: “Weve been informed that GAMEs expected restock this week has been moved forward to 17th August. The reason behind this is possibly due to shipment delays of the PlayStation 5 consoles.
“As we exclusively reported 4 days ago, GAME have updated their release date of #PS5 consoles to 27th August due to the shipment delay we mentioned. We expect GAME to go live with pre-orders 17th August (9-11:30am).”
